Stephen Mackey standing with two students in front of classroom during presentation on leadership

Stephen Mackey, co-author of The Locker Room and founder of 2Words Character Development, is bringing his leadership expertise to students and the community across the district. On November 6, he will return for a special event open to all parents and community members. This is a unique opportunity to hear insights on leadership, character, and supporting the next generation of leaders.

The excitement for Mackey’s message is already building. Earlier this week, he began the day at Aspen Creek Middle School, where students explored the importance of character, integrity, and the everyday choices that shape strong leaders. Later that morning and into the afternoon, 53 student leaders from Gretna High, Gretna East, and Pleasanton participated in the first of four leadership sessions this year. These students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, dug deeper into what it means to lead with purpose, influence others positively, and create a lasting culture in their teams, clubs, schools, and communities.

During both sessions, Mackey encouraged students to embrace their unique leadership strengths. He reminded them that no one else can be the leader they are, and challenged them to inspire others, set a positive example, and strive to be the best version of themselves.

Mackey’s school visits will continue throughout the year and into next year, including sessions with Giles Creek Middle School and Gretna Middle School. These visits provide students with practical tools to grow as leaders and make a meaningful impact on those around them.
